APG Mentoring Program

Guiding you on your photographic journey

What is it?

We are offering a bespoke, one-to-one mentoring, support and coaching service to help our members to develop their photography skills.  The structure and content of the programme will be determined by the student, but will also be based on the mentors' suggestions. The Program is flexible in terms of how you use the time and can cover any subject area you want,

What is the format?

  • The Program will run over a period 10 months and you will learn only what you need to move forward.
  • We will start with a discussion about some of your favourite work to assess your current level of technical and artistic skills.
  • All sessions are customised especially for you to help you to make progress, but will typically include: projects, assignments and learning activities to improve your skills.
  • Monthly sessions with the program tutors to discuss and review your work.
  • Photography mentoring sessions can be online, or in person (when circumstances allow).
  • Email / telephone support throughout the period of the program.

Who is it for?

  • The APG Mentoring Program has been designed as a service for anyone who wants photography advice, guidance and feedback on their work on an ongoing basis.
  • For all levels of photographer from novice through to expert, who want regular photography advice, guidance and feedback.

What could your mentoring program contain?

Assignments

  • We will set a monthly photographic theme which will utilise both technical and creative skills and notes are provided to give suggestions and examples to work with. You can choose to shoot each theme indoors, or outside and use an open interpretation.
  • You take new pictures for the assignment and select an agreed number of your images for review.
  • Send your chosen images to your mentor.
  • Your mentors reviews your images.
  • Your mentors gives you constructive feedback: over the phone or Zoom.

Portfolio Reviews

A portfolio review is a session during which a mentor reviews a photographer’s images selection.

  • This selection can consist of a single series, a panel or a mix of works.
  • When submitting images, the photographer is invited to write a description text about himself and the portfolio. This helps the mentor to understand in advance what are the photographer’s expectations for the review.

Guidance

A guidance session is a session during which a mentor works together with the photographer to step back on where he/she is at right now in his photographic journey what choices are available to him/her and what decisions he/she should be making about his/her practice and evolution.

The photographer is invited to write a description text about himself and what he is expecting from the guidance session. This helps the mentor to understand in advance what are the photographer’s expectations for the review.

How to get started

Needs Based

If you are interested in the Program, use the contact form below to get in touch and we will email you a questionnaire for you to complete.

The Questionnaire

The questionnaire is designed to help you express what you would like to gain from the Program and to tell us something about your photographic practice. Once you have completed your questionnaire, email it to us. We will then be in touch to discuss a start date and to provide you with the payment details.

Mentoring Program Plan

Once we have your completed questionnaire and have review your initial set of images we can start working with you to  develop your Mentoring Program Plan. Once you are happy, the learning begins.

The Cost

This particular activity is not covered by your membership and there is a fee that you will need to pay before we proceed any further. It is not a high amount in comparison with what you would pay on the open market. In fact we are sure you will think it provides great value for money.
