Our meetings are an opportunity for you to meet other members, share your images, get constructive feedback and see the work of our guest speakers. Here are some of the types of meetings we offer during the year.
Our Portfolio Reviews are a staple part of our annual schedule. Each review session sees the members critically examine the ten images in the panel to identify the images they find most, and least successful and to discuss the reasons behind their choices in an open discussion.
We set a series of photo assignments each year to challenge the members to try new photographic techniques and genres. Our members then have to submit two JPEG images for each theme which are then reviewed, critiqued and discussed.
Our guest speakers are usually professional photographers working in a variety of photographic genres. We have been fortunate to secure the services of some of the top UK photographers (and some from much further afield) who have given us some excellent evenings' entertainment.
We encourage our members to show their work and explain the approach they used to make their images. We find this is a great way to gain inspiration learn more about specific techniques that you can use in your own work.
Our members range from advanced enthusiasts to complete beginners, so we use this type of session for the more experienced members to discuss specific techniques that they use. To date we have covered such topics as: infrared, abstraction, macro and repairing old photos.
Every year in June we hold our outdoor challenge: Take two images in an hour and then share them with the members. Typically we go to a nearby location, explore the area to find our images and then return to our base for a pint and an hour's discussion of the images we have made.
